challenges La Source community faces.
Infant and child health are very poor in
Haiti. The infant mortality rate is 124
per 1000 live births. A quarter of all
registered deaths occurred among infants
who were younger than one year old; half
of all deaths occurred among children
under five. Most of these deaths
resulted from infectious diseases,
especially diarrhea diseases.
Statistically, the neighborhood of La
Source is worse: Eighty five percent of
the population lives in malaria areas
and life expectancy is only forty eight
